Splicing optical fibre

Fusion splicing

FSM-60S splicerTo achieve the best splicing results with branded fibre types, we use a three-axis splicer.

Depending on the length of the route and the requirements placed on the transport network, splicing is used in terminal racks, where pigtails are spliced onto the fibre optic cables, or in splice closures.

Single-mode fibres are used in wide area and city networks.

Connector assembly

FO Field from R&M

FO Field connector

The FO Field connector can be fitted directly onto an optical fibre. At present the FO Field is available as an LC multimode OM4 connector. In future the connector will also be available as an APC single-mode version.

We fit the connector at cable breakout points, for example in video connection boxes or fibre optic outlets, where there is usually too little space for splice trays.

Measuring optical fibres

FTB-1 measuring instrument

OTDR measurement analyses and displays the installed fibre optic cables, the splices and the transitions between sections.

The data are first captured in the Bellcore file format and then documented as trace curves in FiberDoc. On request, the customer can receive the documentation as a PDF file.

In addition, a photographic image of the connector end face is possible.

Closure assembly

in the WAN and for emergency repairs

Fibre optic splice closure

In wide area networks, optical fibre cables have to be spliced through at regular intervals, or individual fibres have to be split out for customers or services. Fibre optic closures from various manufacturers are used for this. We are certified by the manufacturers for the most common closure types.

If a fibre optic cable is damaged, using a closure can avoid having to replace the entire cable.
